This is the official binary and source apt repository of Distro Astro, a Linux distribution for astronomy.

It currently contains packages for Distro Astro 3 Juno. To contribute to Distro Astro development, Contact Us.

Adding the Repository

To use, add the following apt lines to your sources list:

deb juno free non-free deb-src juno free non-free

and import our apt key:

wget -qO - | sudo apt-key add -

After that, you will need to update your apt cache:

sudo apt-get update

Installing Packages

If you are running Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty LTS or Linux Mint 17, you can install the entire Distro Astro desktop through a metapackage.

sudo apt-get install distroastro-desktop

Uninstalling Packages

If you installed a package via this repository, you can completely uninstall it using the following command:

sudo apt-get purge packagename

Building Packages (For advanced users)

If you are on a Debian-based distribution that is not based on the Trusty LTS repositories, and wish to install a package from the Distro Astro repository, you can create a Debian package for your system by rebuilding its source packages (replace packagename with the name of the source package you wish to build):

sudo apt-get source packagename sudo apt-get build-dep packagename cd packagename-[press tab] dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -uc -b cd ..

You will now have a binary Debian package in your current directory. You can install it either via command line or by double-clicking.

Removing the Repository

If you no longer wish to use this repository, you can remove it from your system by removing the apt lines from your sources list and running the following command to delete our apt key:

sudo apt-key del D31535E2
